POST-MEETING: the presentations of most of the speakers at the Workshop are available below.

The plenary meeting was open to all UCML member universities and subject associations and was free to attend.

In the morning there was a general Business Meeting. Representatives of all member organisations welcome. Reports from the Officers of the UCML Executive Committee and from Executive representatives of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are appended.

The Afternoon Workshop focused on ‘Post-Brexit implications for HE languages’.

Attendance is free of charge for all representatives of UCML member institutions and subject associations.
However, we ask that you register by emailing ucml@bbk.ac.uk by Friday 23 December 2016.

UCML Plenary Afternoon Workshop

POST-BREXIT IMPLICATIONS FOR HE LANGUAGES

With the likelihood that the Government will commence negotiations towards leaving the EU during 2017 – what are the implications for HE languages? What should UCML be lobbying for specifically? What can UCML and the wider sector do to address concerns which will affect the health of our disciplines.

There will be three main areas of debate, each with speakers & open discussion:

Section 1: Student mobility

Section 2: International research collaboration

Section 3: Making the case for languages in a new geopolitical climate

Conclusion: Ways forward
