UCML welcomes the publication of the Welsh Government’s report on the past five years of the Global Futures programme, which has actively promoted the uptake of languages in Wales and implemented policies that reinforce the value of languages study.

Kirsty Williams MS, Minister for Education, has committed to funding for the programme for a further 2 years, and has written: ‘It’s vital we promote the importance of modern foreign languages and the significant life and career opportunities they bring to our young people. Learning languages doesn’t just equip our young people with qualifications, it broadens their horizons, deepens cultural understanding and provides skills they can use both here and across the world’. UCML is delighted to see this commitment to multilingualism.
