In light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student mobility, combined with concerns around the UK’s withdrawal from Erasmus+ and what this means for Modern Languages degree programmes that include a compulsory year abroad, UCML conducted a survey of its members to establish how many institutions offer programmes that do not include a compulsory year abroad or that offer alternative forms of mobility.

The full report from the survey can be downloaded below. It demonstrates a mixed picture, but while most institutions can be flexible on mobility for students with exceptional mitigating circumstances, there are also some institutions that already offer programmes with alternative modes of immersion. There are also a number of institutions actively exploring introducing more flexible degree pathways from the UCAS application stage.
