Following the call for nominations published 5th September 2022, we are pleased to announce that the new Executive Committee representative for British Sign Language will be Robert McCluskey of the University of Reading.
His bio is as follows:
Hello, my name is Bob and I am profoundly deaf from birth. British Sign Language is my first language and I teach this wonderful language to as many people as I can. I run my own successful, independent business teaching Level 1 – Level 6 BSL classes and have been a tutor since 2013 having trained as a teacher to achieve the PTTL certification. In addition, I am a qualified BSL Assessor and I also teach freelance at various organisations either at their premises or online via Zoom. I have taught companies like GSK, Aston Villa Football, House of Sport, Brooklands College, Winchester Hospital and the Financial Services Ombudsman in London.
Since 2020, I have been teaching over 100 students at the University of Reading and recently just completed a Level 1 BSL course with AMAZON staff. They all passed with flying colours!
Why do I teach BSL? Because I like meeting people, it’s fun and as I have a bubbly personality, lessons are entertaining too! Learners like to come to my lessons to give them a break from homelife/work. They come to class for a laugh. I can guarantee students will learn a wonderful language in a friendly, relaxed environment whether it be face-to-face or online.
In my spare time, I like to walk my dog, spend time with my family and friends, and scuba diving!
Robert McCluskey takes up his post from 1st November, 2022.
