UCML was delighted to see the publication on Wednesday 8 March of the revised QAA Subject Benchmark Statement for Languages, Cultures and Societies. UCML was well represented on the Advisory Group for the Statement, which brought together academic members from universities around the UK along with student and employer representatives.
As well as capturing the diverse aims, methods, and benefits of degrees in Languages, Cultures and Societies, the revised Statement includes a strong focus on equality, diversity, inclusion and other key considerations in higher education today.
Professor Ed Welch, Deputy Chair of the Advisory Group and current convenor of UCML Scotland, commented that ‘the revised Subject Benchmark Statement reflects our commitment to placing EDI, access, employability and sustainability at the heart of degrees in Languages, Cultures and Societies. We hope the Statement will be a valuable resource for a variety of audiences, and that it will support future programme enhancement and innovation across our family of disciplines.’
