The University Council of Modern Languages invites you to an online talk with Professor Emma Marsden about the research and development work undertaken by the (former) National Centre for Excellence for Language Pedagogy (NCELP). The talk will focus on the rationales for the development of language-driven pedagogies and the underpinning research. It will illustrate operationalizations of these ideas in curriculum design decisions and classroom resources, showing how rich cultural content is not sacrificed. The talk will also discuss the new GCSE in French, German, and Spanish and describe the usefulness of the unique online tool ‘The MultilingProfiler’.

The session will be chaired by Dr Hilary Potter, Co-Chair of the UCML ECA Special Interest Group. This talk will be of interest to educators at all levels, people interested in language learning generally, and to external stakeholders invested in language learning in the UK. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
