UCFL is pleased to be able to advertise the Wales Launch for the Languages Gateway.
The Languages Gateway (www.thelanguagesgateway.uk) is a new portal for languages in the UK to help coordinate access to and availability of information about languages to a wide audience. It attempts to mirror similar initiatives in STEM subjects, covering access to information on policy, education, research and professional practice.
Following a launch event hosted at the British Academy on 18th October, on-line launch events will follow throughout November with a focus on each of the four nations of the United Kingdom.
The launch event with a focus on Wales will take place 16:30-17:30 on Tuesday 21st November 2023, via Zoom. Registration is now open via: Eventbrite. The event is free to attend.
Speakers at the event will include:
- Professor Charles Forsdick, Lead Fellow for Languages at The British Academy, to place the initiative in the context of a national languages strategy for the UK
- Philip Harding-Esch, independent consultant, to showcase the website itself
- Professor Claire Gorrara, University of Cardiff, to offer a Welsh policy perspective
Speakers will talk for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A.
Zoom links will be shared one week before the event to those who have registered.
