New UCFL Germanic Rep: Marina Micke

UCFL is pleased to welcome Marina Micke as the new Germanic and Low Countries Representative.

Marina Micke is Head of Modern Languages at the University of Law. With extensive experience in higher education, specialising in institution-wide language provision, curriculum design, and inclusive pedagogies, one of her key motivators in the changing landscape of language education is to ensure provisions remain relevant and connected to wider academic and professional contexts.

She has significant expertise in working with diverse learner cohorts, designing provision that supports students from a wide range of disciplines, different linguistic backgrounds and varying levels of prior formal learning experience. As a strong advocate of Universal Design for Learning, she is committed to creating teaching, assessment and curriculum structures that are accessible and inclusive by design.

A key aspect of her practice is the integration of Languages for Specific Purposes within general language courses, enabling students to develop the linguistic, intercultural, and professional competencies needed for academic success and future employment. She is particularly committed to promoting the role of languages in enhancing employability, transferable skills and global citizenship.

Central to her approach is a commitment to student partnership. She actively fosters collaboration and co-creation, working with students as partners in shaping learning experiences and learner communities.

Marina contributes to sector-wide dialogue through her engagement with professional bodies such as the Association of University Language Communities (AULC) and collaborative projects with colleagues.
