UCFL is pleased to welcome Christina Maags as the new East Asian Studies Rep.
Christina Maags is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Languages, Arts and Societies at the University of Sheffield. She is trained in Asian Studies, Political Science and Social Policy, graduating from the Universities of Bonn, Frankfurt and Oxford. After a Lectureship in Chinese Politics at SOAS, University of London (2017-2020), she moved to the University of Sheffield in 2020. Her research focuses on the politics and political economy of cultural heritage and demographic ageing in PR China. Her work has been published in key Political Science, Social Policy and China Studies journals and books series, such as Asian Development Review, Politics & Policy, Social Policy & Administration, Journal of Current Chinese Affairs and Modern China. Most recently, she published the edited volume Access to Social Care: East and Southeast Asia Compared (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026).
